“The Matrix and Plato’s Allegory of the Cave”

A Presentation by Prof. Mark Farmer, Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures

Thursday, October 4, 2007, 8:00 p.m.

Neils Science Center 234

The popular film The Matrix (1999) has some striking similarities to the cave allegory that Plato presents in The Republic, book VII. Prof. Farmer will look at the correspondences between these two, and in the process show how Plato’s allegory still resonates in contemporary film and thought. Come see how these two works fit together!

Sponsored by the Valpo Core Program.

This event is approved for Core 5th-hour credit.
