Science and Faith, Evolution and Creation

Monday, October 8th at 7:00 pm in the Lankenau Hall Blue Light Lounge

Prof. Hillwig of the Dept. of Physics and Astronomy will discuss possible congruence and balance between science/evolution and faith/creation. He will present his personal research in this area. The event will be a lecture/presentation followed by a question and answer section.

“Ramadan”

VU’s Muslim Students presents:

“Ramadan”

Monday, October 8, at 6 pm in the Community Room of the Christopher Center.

An opportunity to learn about fasting, breaking of the fast, and the whole month of contemplation. Learn about this holy month, break the fast with the Muslim students, sample Middle Eastern food, and experience “Almagrib,” the prayer following the meal. There will also be time for questions and answers.

Valpo Chorale and Bach Choir Concert

Morten Lauridsen’s luminous Lux Aeterna will be the centerpiece of a Sunday, October 7, 3 pm concert featuring the Valpo Chorale and Bach Choir in the Chapel of the Resurrection. Accompanying the Chorale, one of the nation’s top Lutheran collegiate choirs, and Bach Choir for the performance is guest organist David Eicher.

During the second half of the concert program, the Chorale will perform J.S. Bach’s motet, Lobet den herrn, William Byrd’s Justorum Animae and contemporary music by Swedish composers Hugo Alfven and Sven-Erik Bäck.

“Shakespeare Under the Stars”

Valpo’s chapter of Alpha Psi Omega, the national theatre fraternity, will present its annual “Shakespeare Under the Stars” performance at 10 pm, Saturday, October 6th, on the lawn south of the Chapel of the Resurrection.

Concert of Russian Music

Saturday, October 6, 7:30 pm in the Chapel of the Resurrection. Free and open to the public.

Valpo’s Symphony Orchestra will perform works by some of Russia’s most influential classical composers, including Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto in D Major.

“Faith and Work, Love and Life”

Homecoming Symposium—A 40th Anniversary Christ College Alumni Panel

October 4, 2007, 6:30-7:30 pm, Christ College Refectory, Mueller Hall

In this popular annual Homecoming event a panel of Christ College alumni will discuss life after Valparaiso University, with particular emphasis on the ways in which their Valpo education and experience in Christ College shaped essential aspects of their spiritual lives, careers, and personal relationships. This year’s special Symposium will mark the 40th anniversary of Christ College with speakers reflecting on CC life in each of the College’s four decades.

“Invisible Minority”

Thursday, October 4th at 7 pm in the Lankenau Hall exercise room, come gain a greater awareness of the specific diversity issues that students face on Valparaiso’s campus and the experiences that some of your peers have faced. This interactive event will confront and challenge your understanding of discrimination and diversity and will be followed by a discussion.

A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints

Tonight, Wednesday, October 3, there will be a Core-approved film screening with a discussion to follow. The film, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, is a coming-of-age drama in which a boy discovers that his fate is unlike those of his friends, who end up dead, on drugs, or in prison. He starts to believe that “saints” have saved him from a life of misery. The film begins at 7:30 pm and the discussion follows the screening.
