A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints

Tonight, Wednesday, October 3, there will be a Core-approved film screening with a discussion to follow. The film, A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, is a coming-of-age drama in which a boy discovers that his fate is unlike those of his friends, who end up dead, on drugs, or in prison. He starts to believe that “saints” have saved him from a life of misery. The film begins at 7:30 pm and the discussion follows the screening.

“Stereotypes: Myth or Realities?”
Thursday September, 27, 2007, 8:15-9:15 pm (approximately)
Neils Science Center Room 234

“So what’s wrong with stereotypes? I mean they’re mostly true, right?” If you have ever fallen for this line of reasoning, then this is a forum for you. Just because a set of people embody certain characteristics, is it safe to generalize about all people in the group? And why would one stereotype in the first place? Is it because people are misinformed? Is it because people seek the truth through stereotypying? Or is there another reason altogether? Let us know your answer in this open discussion.
