Festival of Voices

Festival of Voices will be Sunday, November 9th at 2:00 p.m. in the Union Great Hall. Tickets are $2.00 and will be available at the door. Performances will include Emerson School for the Visual and Performing Arts Concert Choir, Susan May, Northwest Indiana Youth Chorus, Valparaiso University’s Acabellas, and Ballet Folklorico de East Chicago.

Festival of Voices is a benefit for Hilltop Childcare Center. Hilltop provides a quality childcare program for lower-income families. Currently, Hilltop has about seventy children enrolled, ranging from six weeks to five years old. Roughly sixty percent of the children at Hilltop receive financial assistance.

In-kind donations will also be accepted at the concert. Hilltop Childcare Center’s wish-list includes arts and crafts supplies, breakfast foods, snacks, hand soap, children’s books, and pre-school learning materials. Celebration of International Cultures

Thursday, from noon to 3 p.m., there will be a Celebration of
International Cultures in the Community Room at the Christopher Center.
The cultures of our international students will be presented in music
and dance and international study opportunities showcased.  Refreshments
representing various cultures will be served.

Focus on Latin America: Dance Lessons

VuVox Concert

Introducing Valpo’s First Ever Male Acappella group!!!

VUVOX!

VuVox will be having their first concert this Sunday, April 20th at 7:30 pm in the Duesenberg Recital Hall in the VUCA!!! Doors open at 7:00. There are limited seats available, so get there early!!!

VuVox is made up of gentlemen of all different majors here at Valpo, so you are sure to know someone in the group! They will be singing a variety of songs, including songs by Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Van Morrison!!!

Wordfest: Accabellas and Margaret McMullan

Wordfest event: the Accabellas open for award-winning fiction writer, Margaret McMullan

When: Thurs, Feb 21st at 6 pm

McMullan has most recently published When I Crossed No-Bob (2007), the sequel to her first young-adult novel about a Southern family during the Civil War. When I Crossed No-Bob shares some of the same characters but occurs during the period of Reconstruction. McMullan also writes adult novels, short stories, and essays. She is currently a professor of English at the University of Evansville, in Evansville, Indiana, where she lives with her husband, Patrick O’Connor and their son, James.The three of them have work in an upcoming issue of National Geographic for Kids.

Zhejiang Butterfly Performing Troupe

Thursday, Feb 14th at 7:30 p.m. there will be free entertainment in the Chapel of the Resurrection featuring a professional performing group from China, along with the VU Symphony and Windiana Concert Band. Having been invited by Valparaiso University, the Zhejiang Butterfly Performing Troupe is making a special trip to America to perform traditional Chinese instrumental and vocal music, folk dances, acrobatics, and excerpts from a famous classical Chinese opera for the opening ceremony of the Confucius Institute at VU. You won’t want to miss this rare opportunity to see these three musical groups combine their unique styles, rhythms, and talents and perform together!

Chamber Ensemble to Perform Jan. 15

The Barossa Quintet will perform a Jan. 15 recital at Valparaiso University’s Center for the Arts.

The recital, which begins at 7:30 p.m., will feature classical and contemporary works by Karl Pilss, Giuseppe Cambini, Paquito D’Rivera and Jean Francaix. The performance is free and open to the public.

Student Organists to Perform at Chapel

Student organists in Valparaiso University’s chapter of the American Guild of Organists and a faculty guest will perform during a Jan. 14 recital at the Chapel of the Resurrection.

The annual student recital features performances on the University’s renowned Reddel Memorial Organ and begins at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and a freewill offering will support the activities of the University’s AGO student chapter. A reception will follow the recital.
