2013 Training Camp Opens

Sunday August 4th is reporting day for the Valparaiso Crusaders. The first practice will be Monday evening, August 5th. 110 players will report and begin preparation for the 2013 football season. The Crusaders open August 29th at the University of North Dakota. Game time is 7 PM.

The coaching staff is looking forward to getting back on the field with our team. We had a large group of players stay in Valpo all summer. Workouts were conducted by Strength & Conditioning Coach Bob Brooks. They were very productive. I can see a physical change in our players as they have come in and out of our offices.

Over the past few weeks many of the team members have returned. They all look like they have worked hard over the summer from their physical appearance. We will find out what type of condition our team is in the first few days of camp as we test their strength and endurance.

Our preparation over the next few weeks will focus on teaching football fundamentals as well as simulating game situations. We will conduct two full scrimmages during the first two weeks of camp before we get in full preparation for North Dakota. This year’s school calendar gives us three full weeks of camp before the opening of classes.

Our new staff additions have meshed nicely with the returning coaches. You can read about our staff hires in the links below in case you missed the announcements.

Our theme for the season is What’s Important Now – W.I.N. Every team member must be focused on being at their best at the moment they are in. We must all be at our best in practice, in the weight room, in the meeting room, in the classroom, and at game time. Give your best effort for that rep and for the situation at hand.

It’s A Great Day to be a Crusader!
