The Crusaders host Morehead State University this Saturday. Kick-off is at 1 PM on Family Weekend here at Valpo.
We were all disappointed by the loss at Mercer. We had opportunities. Former Giants and Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells said that “there are 5-6 plays a game that are the difference makers. You never know when they will come up in the game but you have to make the majority of them.” We did not last week.
Our special teams gave a great effort against Mercer last week. It was the best we’ve played in that area this season. I am looking for even better play this week.
Quarterback Eric Hoffman had another 300 yard plus day passing the football. Eric went 30 of 39 with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Tanner Kuramata had another big day with 100 plus receiving yards and two touchdown receptions.
Morehead State is 2-4, 2-1 in the PFL. They have won two in a row after their 0-4 start. You can see them finding their rhythm on offense as they replaced the majority of their offense from last year. They have settled on Austin Gahafer at QB after rotating some different players at the position. Their skill players are athletic and can make plays in space.
Morehead is aggressive on defense. They brought pressure on 36 of 88 plays versus Jacksonville a few weeks ago. Their secondary is experienced and athletic. We must block their pressure and create opportunities in the run and pass this week. DE Ronald Cooper is a good pass rusher off the edge.
Our Players of the Week for the Mercer game were:
O Prep – Dylan Simkin
D Prep – Steve Holman
ST Prep – Derrick Estell
OL – Sean Cook
OL Knockdown – Sean Cook
Off – Tanner Kuramata
Special Teams – Alex Kozlowski
Big Play – Jabril Baker, Pat Derbak, Tanner Kuramata, Charlie Hackett, Andrew Cassara
