ValpoScholar, Valpo’s institutional repository, has just recorded its 500,000th download after only two years of operation.

Since March 2011, ValpoScholar has collected over 2,500 files from Valpo faculty, staff, and students in addition to publishing four professional journals and three student publications. These files are integrated and indexed with most major search engines, making Valpo scholarship and creative work easily available to the world with one simple search.

Most faculty, staff, and students receive monthly notifications of how many times their files have been downloaded, indicating which of their pieces of scholarship might be having the biggest impact in their respective subject areas.

ValpoScholar is jointly hosted by the Christopher Center and the Law Library. If you would like more information on ValpoScholar, please visit http://scholar.valpo.edu/ or contact Jonathan Bull (jon.bull@valpo.edu or Ext. 5771).

Given that the majority of information resources available for faculty and students are online, and given that print usage and gate count statistics show that few faculty and students are in the Christopher Center Library on Sundays during the summer sessions, it has been determined that the Christopher Center Library will be closed on Sundays in Summer 2013, from Sunday May 26 to Sunday August 18. The Library will open again on Sunday, August 25 before the Fall 2013 semester begins. Since the library is already closed on Saturdays in the summer (except on FOCUS weekends), this will effectively mean that the library will be closed on weekends this coming summer.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Dr. Brad Eden, Dean of Library Services, at x5099 or brad.eden@valpo.edu.
