Hola! My name is Anna Wiersma, and I am from Holland, MI. I just finished my sophomore year and am majoring in International Economics and Cultural Affairs with a Spanish language concentration and minoring in Political Science and Acting. On campus, I am involved in the Social Action Leadership Team (SALT), Sigma Alpha Iota, a women’s professional music fraternity, Christ College, and acting and directing in Valpo and Christ College theatre! I also work as an Ambassador in Admission and teach Spanish to 4th and 5th graders in Valparaiso.
But this summer I’m going to be trading in all my activities on Valpo’s campus and heading to Valparaiso, Chile instead! I’m also going to be trading in the beautiful summer weather for a South American winter…please, cross your fingers for me that it doesn’t get too cold!
I have an internship with the YMCA in Valparaiso, Chile. The YMCA in Valparaiso, Chile sponsors an elementary school, two foster homes (one for boys and one for girls), a soup kitchen and a tutoring program to teach adults English, all of which I will have the opportunity to work at this summer!
