This past weekend we traveled to Lynchburg, Virginia. We departed from Midway Airport on Thursday morning and landed in Raleigh, North Carolina. From Raleigh, we drove three hours to Lynchburg, Virginia. The scenery on the drive was very green and mountainous. We had practice on Thursday evening at a beautiful facility on the Liberty University campus, where mountains could be seen on the horizon as the sun was setting.
Our first game was on Friday at 5:00 pm against Coastal Carolina. We dominated the game and ended up winning 1-0. Starting off the weekend with a win felt great! We ended the evening with a great dinner at a local steakhouse.
We practiced Saturday morning, and then enjoyed the rest of the day doing team activities, eating dinner, and going to a baseball game. After the game there was a beautiful display of fireworks. It was neat to meet some of the locals of Lynchburg and get a feel for life on the East Coast.
Sunday we had our second and final game of the weekend. It was at 2:00 pm against Liberty University. We played hard and put up a strong fight, but unfortunately, we didn’t get the end result that we wanted. After the game we showered and hit the road. We made the three hour drive back to North Carolina and stayed the night at a hotel in close proximity to the airport.
We woke up bright and early on Monday morning, boarded our flight, and got back to the Chicagoland area at around 10:30 am. We made it back to Valpo by noon, went to our afternoon classes and finished our day with practice… Happy Labor Day!!!
The weekend was a great experience. We learned a lot from the games, got to enjoy each other’s company, and got to experience traveling together.
