Choosing a conference style
- Face-to-face conferences are the best all-around conferences, especially when you’re still working up content, have questions about citations, and are not sure if you have met the assignment criteria. If you schedule ahead, you can choose a time and consultant.
- Email conferring works well for people with tight schedules and longer papers. In an email conference, the consultant can spend more time reading and thinking about your text. You will receive marginal notes and questions. The reader will respond to the direction of the argument. Be sure to send along your assignment and explain what you would like to know. Please say more than “Here’s my paper, check this for flow.” What’s the assignment? What do you need help with? Turn-around time for email is about 24 hours (not Saturday), but face-to-face conferences get priority.
- IM exhange (9 - 10:30 Sun-Thurs) is perfect when you need encouragement or have a citation question. Or maybe you need to bounce a thesis idea, or even whine a little! We’ll be there for you!
Check the BLUE LIGHT often
Rather than a web site, we’re going with a blog to improve online communication. We’ll provide instruction, tips, and links. Best of all you can contribute too . . .we’re all writers here at Valpo, so be sure to post to the BLUE LIGHT.
By using the Categories you will find instruction and tips accumulate quickly throughout the semester as topics are posted.
