The Social Action Leadership Team (SALT) is the social justice ministry of the Chapel of the Resurrection at Valparaiso University. As a community, students seek to embody the Christian call to be the “salt of the earth” (Matt. 5:13). SALT helps students develop a passion and practice of Christian social action. SALTers draw upon God’s love for all people to cultivate the skills of community organizing, awareness raising, and fund development. SALTers are equipped to lead lives of social justice and serve as agents for positive change in their communities.
What We Do
SALT’s fall semester Passion Groups are designed to rally students around specific issues and causes, increase capacity for action, and take action for social change in concrete ways.
SALTers learn to effectively advocate for social change in a variety of settings. Whether it’s writing letters as part of a campaign or speaking to campus leaders about social issues, the work of advocacy is never done.
SALTers raise funds every year for worthy causes in support of people in need across the globe. From funding water projects in rural Kenya, to reading programs on South Dakota reservations, the impact of SALT’s efforts touches the lives of people around the world.
Meetings are Monday evenings at 9:30 p.m. when classes are in session. Meetings take place at the multipurpose room of the Helge Center at the Chapel of the Resurrection.
