SALT’s 2008 WRC helped fund The Child Creativity Center In Jakarta, Indonesia, specifically in the Lenteng Agung neighborhood. The center would primarily serve street children whose families cannot afford formal school. SALT partnered with the Center for Pesantren and Democracy Studies (CePDeS), an organization that envisions social justice and equality including gender justice and equality in pluralistic Indonesian societies. The center will serve as a medium to nurture tolerance and peaceful co-existence among religions, which is important in an ever globalizing world. The goal of the campaign was to raise $11,650. The center satisfies the needs of the community by providing different kinds of activities and by recruiting as many volunteers as possible. A cornerstone of the center is to promote the value of respecting differences, including religious differences.
