HispaValpo a blog dedicated to documenting and reporting on activities and news related to the Spanish language and Hispanic cultures. It is a joint initiative of faculty and students to provide student organizations and the Spanish section with a communication channel for all things Spanish. The blog aims to keep us posted about on-campus Hispanic/Spanish events, but also to reach out to the local and global Hispanic communities, as well as to anyone interested in the Spanish language and the cultural richness linked to it.

As a result, in HispaValpo you can find a wide variety of contents! We post updates on the Spanish Club‘s activities, newsletters from L.I.V.E. [the Latinx In Valparaiso for Excellence student organization], news from Valpo’s Lambda Zeta chapter of Sigma Delta Pi [the Hispanic Honorary Society], or Letras, the literary journal in Spanish directed by prof. Miguel-Pueyo, in addition to other activities organized by the World Languages and Cultures department or the Language Resource Center. Students contribute to the blog with articles and reflections on social, political or economic issues of interest in the Hispanic world, and also with reviews on Hispanic literary and cultural works. Last but not least, we also post on academic and professional opportunities that include scholarships, service learning or internships where Spanish language learning or knowledge is involved.

The blog is bilingual, accepting contributions both in Spanish and English. If you are interested in writing for HispaValpo, either to exercise your Spanish written skills (we edit your texts and give you feedback!) or to explore a topic related to the Hispanic world, or both, please email us to lucia.otten@valpo.edu or alberto.lopezmartin@valpo.edu
