Undergraduate Scholarships:

 

AMS Freshman Undergraduate Scholarship

This scholarship is available to high school seniors who plan to enter their first year of atmospheric science undergraduate studies in the fall. Approximately ten to twenty awards are made per year, with each award including a $2,500/yr stipend for two years. Applications are typically due in early February.

 

AMS Minority Scholarships

This scholarship is available to high school seniors who plan to enter their first year of atmospheric science undergraduate studies in the fall. This scholarship awards funding to students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds. Approximately ten awards are made per year, with each award including a $3,000/yr stipend for two years. Applications are typically due in early February.

 

AMS Named Undergraduate Scholarships

This scholarship is available to juniors who plan to enter their final year of atmospheric science undergraduate studies in the fall. Approximately fifteen awards are made per year, with the stipend amount varying between awards. Applications are typically due in early February.

 

NOAA Hollings Scholarship

NOAA Hollings Scholarships are intended to increase undergraduate training in oceanic and atmospheric science, research, technology, and education. Over 100 awards are made per year, with each award including an up to $9,500/yr stipend for two years and a ten-week, full-time paid summer research experience between the first and second years of the program. Applications are typically due in January, and you must have sophomore standing at the time of your application.

 

Study.com Women in STEM Scholarships

The goal with the Scholarship Guide for Women and our College and Career Guide for Women in STEM is to inform students about critical information regarding their college education and career choices to help set them up for success. These guides offer in-depth information in several areas, including: Comprehensive list of scholarships for women across different fields, guide to colleges for women in STEM, and STEM career and college organizations for women. A few of their scholarships include the Women is Science, Women in Engineering, and Women in STEM Scholarships. Applications are generally due in early April.

 

NWA Undergraduate Scholarships

The National Weather Association offers scholarships to undergraduate students at varying stages of their studies within the atmospheric sciences. A total of eight scholarships are available annually, with applications due on a rotating basis throughout the calendar year. Stipends vary between individual scholarships.

 

 

Graduate Scholarships:

 

AMS Graduate Fellowships

AMS Graduate Fellowships are offered to students who will enter their first year of atmospheric science M.S. studies in the fall. They provide a $25,000 stipend and partial travel support to the AMS Annual Meeting. Approximately ten to fifteen awards are made per year and applications are typically due in January.

 

Fullbright Scholarships

The Fulbright Program is the flagship international educational exchange program sponsored by the U.S. government and is designed to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries. Approximately 1,500 awards are made annually across all disciplines. Applications are typically due in October.

 

NASA Future Investigators in NASA Earth and Space Science and Technology (FINESST)

The FINESST Program provides support to students conducting research to meet NASA’s scientific goals in the Earth and Space Sciences. Approximately fifty awards are made to students in Earth Science disciplines per year, with each including $24,000-$30,000/yr stipends for three years. Applications are typically due in early February.

 

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship

This fellowship program is designed to increase the number of U.S. citizens and nationals trained in science and engineering disciplines of military importance. Approximately 200 three-year fellowships are awarded annually across fifteen disciplines of interest to the U.S. Dept. of Defense. Applications are typically due in December.

 

NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program

This program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported disciplines who are pursuing research-based M.S. or Ph.D. degrees. Awards include a $34,000/yr stipend for three years as well as a $12,000/yr waiver of tuition and fees. The number of awards varies per year and applications are typically due in November.

 

UCAR Next Generation Fellowships

UCAR Next Generation Fellowships are awarded to graduate students (prospective or continuing) from underrepresented communities who are interested in Earth System Science, Diversity and Inclusion, or Public Policy. Awards are for $20,000/yr for up to two years. Applications are due each winter/spring.
